July is National Ice Cream Month!
National Ice Cream Month 2025 is celebrated throughout the month of July. National Ice Cream Day, which falls during National Ice Cream Month, will be observed on Sunday, July 20th.
I scream, you scream! We all scream for ice cream! If you haven’t guessed, July is National Ice Cream Month. You have an entire month to cool off with a scoop of your favorite flavor or try a new flavor every day!
Wisconsinites love their ice cream!
Did you know that ice cream sales in Wisconsin are 17% higher than average in July? Nothing screams Wisconsin like a scoop of ice cream. Home to over 40 licensed ice cream plants, our history of producing high-quality ice cream and frozen custard is all thanks to the milk that comes from the more than 5,000 dairy farms that call our state home.

Like many of the food holidays we have on the calendar, the exact origin of ice cream is unknown. What we do know, however, is the origin of ice cream likely dates back to A.D. 54 to 68 during the time when Nero was Emperor of Rome. Evidence shows harvesting ice or snow, then flavoring it with honey or other flavorings to make ice cream. Alexander the Great supposedly enjoyed icy drinks that had flavorings such as honey or nectar, too!
In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month, along with the third Sunday of the month, as National Ice Cream Day. From ice cream socials on the White House Lawn, to a dish of Union Utopia at the Memorial Union Terrace, the entire country is celebrating Babcock Dairy’s favorite month of the year!
New flavors to try this National Ice Cream month at Babcock Dairy include two new feature flavors, Peaches and Cream and coming soon: Banana Crumble, and of course the all time favorites Orange Custard Chocolate Chip and Union Utopia will be available to cool off in the sweetest way possible all month long.
